What is tartar and how to recognize it?

Tartar is a residue plaque that calcifies on the teeth. It is the calcium and phosphate deposited on the teeth that give it this hard consistency. By letting the pie accumulate, we risk the spread of bacteria which then causes inflammation of the gums.

Yellowish or slightly brown in color, tartar forms mainly on the inner side of the lower incisors and behind the first premolars on the upper jaw, near the salivary glands, and between the spaces in or between the teeth.

With the following techniques, you can get rid of it yourself:

 1. The toothpick method

  • Ingredients:

*   1 toothbrush

*  1/2 tsp. to c. salt

*  1/2 cup lukewarm water

*  1 cup of hydrogen peroxide

*  1 toothpick

*  Baking soda

* An antiseptic mouthwash

Mix the baking soda with salt and a little water. Brush your teeth with the paste and then spit well. Then, mix the hydrogen peroxide with water and make a mouthwash, rinse well with clear water. Finally, take a toothpick and remove the tartar (the first part of the treatment having softened the plaque). Rinse your mouth with the antiseptic mouthwash and you’re done.

2. The fruit method

Rub the tartar plate for 10 minutes with a lemon slice or a strawberry. The acidity of the fruit will soften the plaque making it easier for you to get rid of it with a toothbrush.

To prevent tartar formation, it is essential to brush your teeth at least twice a day and clean the spaces between the teeth with dental floss.
